In connection with #16DaysofActivism 2023 against gender-based violence, WISE organized a seminar to launch its Digital Archive at the University of Home Economics, Lahore. A large number of students and members of different faculties; Gender studies, Media studies and Computer Sciences joined the event.
Among main speakers were Prof. Tayyaba Sohail, head of Gender Studies Department, Ashraf Hussain Bukhari, Deputy Director Women Development Department (WDD), Shahnawaz Khan, Resident Director SPO, Abdul Khaliq, Social Researcher and Bushra Khaliq, Executive Director, WISE.
Bushra Khaliq shedding light on role of archives in academic research, said in the E Archive, WISE has deposited its 10-year work, including research reports, gender justice campaigns and feminist actions for the researchers and academics. We have lots of record available in different shapes of reports, videos and pictures, she added. An important aspect of this Archive is that it comes from the women organization which is led by women, run by women and work for women.
The speakers appreciated WISE efforts terming it an as vital repository of information for researchers and urged students to utilize this facility. Digital archives as record of the work of organizations and movements are very important to be preserved for the young generations, they added.
