Empowering Voices, a Literacy Initiative for Women Domestic Workers

WISE has been working for the rights of Women Domestic Workers for the last 5 years, having successfully organized approximately 1500 women at the grassroots level. Recognizing the importance of education, especially for those who are unable to read or write, we launched a basic literacy program six months ago, establishing four study centers in Lahore and Sheikhupura.

With 15 women enrolled in each center, a total of 60 Domestic Workers are currently acquiring essential literacy skills in these informal settings. Through three part-time weekly classes over the course of six months, these women are not only mastering reading and writing but are also uncovering their latent potential. Here are a few glimpses of the classes held at the literacy centers in Township and Rewaz Garden, Lahore.
