Diploma on Self-Local Government

WISE, in collaboration with the Department of Political Science, University of the Punjab, and civil society partners, launched the Self-Local Government Diploma Course, a 10-month diploma programme designed to strengthen participants’ understanding of local governance, democratic processes, and civic participation. Since its inception, the programme has equipped 90 participants with knowledge, leadership capacities, and practical understanding to engage more effectively in local governance and contribute to accountable, transparent, and inclusive development.

The programme provides in-depth learning on local government systems, democratic values, citizen participation, public policy, accountability, and inclusive development. It also promotes research, dialogue, critical reflection, and practical engagement with local governance processes, enabling participants to connect classroom learning with governance challenges at the grassroots level.

In 2026, 4th batch of the Diploma Course, was launched comprising 17 participants, including 8 women and 9 men. The programme continues to provide a diverse learning environment for participants to exchange perspectives, develop leadership skills, and deepen their understanding of democratic governance and citizens’ roles in decision-making.

Through this flagship initiative, WISE is nurturing a new generation of informed, active, and engaged citizens equipped to engage with local institutions, advocate for responsive public services, and promote greater transparency, accountability, and citizen participation. The programme is contributing to stronger grassroots leadership and creating a sustained pool of citizens capable of playing a meaningful role in strengthening local democracy, inclusive governance and civic participation.
