For the past five years, the people of Punjab have been deprived of their constitutional right to an elected Local Government. This disconnect between LG laws and their implementation has created a gap between the municipal needs of the people and the services provided by local government institutions.
In response, WISE has launched a series of local-led community dialogues across selected Union Councils in Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, and Lahore. These dialogues aim to assess the development deficits in local governance caused by the absence of public representation.
The first dialogue was held today in UC-20, Badami Bagh, Lahore, bringing together a diverse group of stakeholders, including UC Secretaries, Ex-Councilors, former Chairmen, political party representatives, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), and community focal persons.
The consultation emphasized the significance of inclusive participation and collaborative efforts in addressing community challenges and shaping policies for improved governance.
