The floodwaters surging yet again through Pakistan, as the country is faced with an all too familiar crisis. When disaster strikes, it does not strike equally. The on-going unprecedented floods in Pakistan have displaced millions, sweeping away homes, farmland and livelihoods. More than 850 people have been killed and over 1000 injured across the country during the monsoon rain spell since June. In the plain regions of Punjab alone, 164 people died while 582 others were injured.
Officials report nearly 300,000 displaced in Punjab and more than 2 million people are affected so far. The deluge has wiped out standing rice, maize and other crops besides vegetables in more than 3,100 villages. But beneath the surface of this humanitarian crisis lies a truth we cannot ignore; women, girls and gender-diverse people are bearing the heaviest burden.
In crisis, women are often the last to eat, the first to lose access to education, and the most at risk of gender-based violence. The floods have left countless women without safe shelter, maternal health services, or clean water for their families. Girls are being pulled from school to help rebuild shattered households, while mothers are making impossible choices between their children’s hunger and their own survival.
This is not only a climate disaster – it is a feminist issue. Climate injustice is gendered. Those least responsible for the climate emergency are paying the highest price. The women farmers who tilled the land, the daughters who dreamed of classrooms, and the mothers who hold communities together are now struggling to find dry ground.
In this hour of need, we must respond with care, justice and solidarity. Your contribution is not just a donation – it is an act of feminist resistance against systems that leave women most vulnerable in times of crisis. Together, we can provide:
When we support flood survivors in Pakistan, we support women’s right to live with dignity, safety and hope. Join us in building not just recovery, but justice.
Donate today. Stand in feminist solidarity.
