In August 2025, WISE (Women in Struggle for Empowerment) launched a plantation drive in Lahore and Sheikhupura in collaboration with the Punjab Department of Environment Protection and Climate Change. The campaign strengthened community-led reforestation efforts across hospitals, schools, and homes, where women and families took ownership of planting and nurturing young trees as an act of care for their environment and communities. Ms. Kanwal Liaquat, Parliamentary Secretary for Environment Protection and Climate Change, Punjab, joined the campaign and appreciated the leadership role of women in advancing local climate action.
Participants shared how these small green interventions were already transforming their surroundings. A resident of Kot Lakhpat described the joy of seeing last year’s young trees fully grown, while Samina Shakeel from lahore expressed how the plants created a sense of peace and beauty at home. For young voices like Aiza Pervaiz from Sheikhupura, the campaign symbolized hope for cleaner air, stronger biodiversity, and a greener future for the next generation.
Through this initiative, WISE reaffirmed its feminist approach to climate action, placing women at the heart of community-driven solutions. By nurturing trees, women are not only contributing to environmental protection but also strengthening resilience, well-being, and justice in the face of climate change.
To sustain and expand these green interventions, WISE calls on government departments, private sectors, and international climate funds to invest in women-led reforestation and community-based climate solutions in Pakistan. With greater resources and policy support, women can scale up these local actions into lasting, climate-resilient change for Pakistan.
