Women NIC & Voter Registration Campaign in District Nankana Sahib

WISE has been working in District Nankana Sahib since 2017 to reduce the male-female voter deficit by reaching out to areas where women generally do not have NICs. Under this context, to reduce the male-female voter deficit and increase their political participation by reaching out to areas where women do not tend to register their NICs, WISE started a campaign in District Nankana Sahib in collaboration initially with Trust for Democratic Education & Accountability (TDEA).

A range of stakeholders including government departments, especially ECP, NADRA and Local Government Department, political parties’ representatives, local influential and District Voter Education Committee were taken on board to carry out “Women NIC & Voter Registration Campaign” from November 2017 to April 2020. A number of consultative meetings and policy forums were arranged for the smooth functioning of this campaign.

 

During this period WISE identified 35,873 eligible women and facilitated 21,240 unregistered women in three tehsils of district Nankana Sahib to get them registered with NADRA and ECP. To make the campaign successful 240 coordination meetings were organized with Officials of ECP, NADRA, Local Government Department, District Voter Education Committee and political parties’ representatives. WISE Team outreached from 05 to 50 KM far flung areas to mobilize and transport such women to NADRA centers. Besides door to door visits over 2000 community mobilization activities were also organized.  

 

Accomplishments:

  • 35,873 Eligible aged unregistered women were identified and listed.
  • 21,240 Women’s CNICs were processed & registered with ECP.
  • 88 Meetings with Line Departments (343 persons including 68 women and 275 men attended the meetings)
  • 144 Meetings with Local Government & Political Parties Representatives (400 persons including 112 women and 288 men attended the meetings)
  • 240 coordination meetings were organized with Officials of ECP, NADRA, Local Government Department, District Voter Education Committee and political parties’ representatives
  • 08 Meeting with District Voter Education Committee (89 persons including 26 women and 63 men attended the meetings)
  • 11 Advocacy & Public forums Attended (823 persons including 581 women and 242 men attended the forums)
  • 2179 Community Mobilization Activities (47,839 persons including 40,494 women and 7345 men attended the meetings)
  • Door to door visits:  over 2000 community mobilization activities were also organized.
